Porter Cable Reciprocating Saw Reviews
I’ve always thought of Porter Cable tools were designed for ease of use. For instance their combo packs are designed to use the same battery, whether it’s ni-cad or ion. Other manufacturers make different batteries. Why would they do that?
When I think if the Porter Cable Tiger Saw, I think they took a simple idea and made it the best of all major tool companies. The hardest thing with any reciprocating saw it getting it in a position to cut. Many times you simply can’t get it at the correct angle or the saw is too large.
Dewalt address this by allowing the blade to have 4 rotating settings, Milwaukee allows the handle to have 4 rotating positions.
These approaches are adequate, but the Tiger saw with variable handle one ups everybody.
Their handle not only rotates, but it rotates to multiple angles, increasing you cutting options dramatically. If you cut round a lot of tight spaces, this alone is probably enough of a reason to buy this saw.
Like all saws in this price range, it does have variable cutting speed. Great to start the cut slowly and the speed up.
The 9748 is the same saw without the variable angle.
The porter cable cordless saws are designed to work as a set with their other cordless tools. If you already have a porter cable battery and charger you can get this tool for around fifty bucks and have available when you need to do a quick cut.
This saw can be sold with our without batteries. Make sure you know what which style you are getting.
The tiger saws will cut about anything you need and I can’t imagine not being happy with one. If you value convenience and price and enough cutting power over rotating handles and full power then you will be happy with the cordless model.
Concerns
The tiger saw is compatible with other saws from other major tool makers. 11.5 amps is their top powered saw. Others its 15 amps. 15 is better than 11.5, but at a certain point, it’s redundant. I used an older 6 amp saw for years and it worked fine. 11.5 is enough to cut about anything, but realize there are bigger amp saws available.
Compared to other saws, the tiger saw can have a little extra vibration, as well, but not enough to make a huge difference.
The cordless saw could be a little more powerful, but again for what it’s designed to do, it will cut 99% of what you need to do around the house.
Conclusion
Porter Cable Tools are designed for simplicity and ease of use. Today, almost all saws are powerful enough to cut about anything. Your choice is really what saw best fits your intended usage. But regardless of what you choose, the porter cable saws would be an excellent choice.
